The Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District encourages communities, non-profit organizations, and businesses to explore grant opportunities for waste reduction, reuse, and recycling projects. Business Grant Information

Business Grants and Loans available through Ohio Department of Development
(These are not necessarily awarded for pollution prevention programs, but are aimed to support businesses in Ohio)

Recycling Market Development Grant

The Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention (DRLP) offers Recycling Market Development Grants to Ohio solid waste management districts and authorities to establish projects with cooperating local businesses to enhance and increase markets for recyclable materials collected from residences and businesses in Ohio. Guidelines for this grant are outlined in the Recycling Market Development Grant Application Handbook. For additional assistance with the grant application process, interested Hamilton County businesses should contact the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District. Scrap Tire Loan and Grant Program

Loans and grants are available to scrap tire recyclers who locate or expand in Ohio and who demonstrate that they will create new/reuse scrap tire products. Eligible borrowers include any operating business that has a significant presence in Ohio and demonstrates that its fixed asset expansion project will recycle Ohio's scrap tires.

The Third Frontier Action Fund (formerly know as the Technology Action Fund)
Technology Action Fund awards are made on a competitive basis. Proposals are sought at least once a year in focus areas set by the Technology Action Board. The awards are made by the Technology Action Board; subject to approval by the State Controlling Board. The preferred minimum grant request is $100,000.

Proposed initiatives should have the capacity for generating substantial economic growth in the state of Ohio and for creating and/or retaining sustainable jobs.

Industry Grant Information

What is the Waste Assessment?
This grant subsidizes 50% of the cost, up to $4,000, for any waste assessment or implementation, which may include:

  1. Environmental
  2. Energy
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Hazardous Wastes
  5. Lean Manufacturing
  6. ISO 14000 Gap Analysis

Who can benefit form this assessment?
The grant provides funding for a limited number of small to medium-sized (under 500 employees) manufacturers.

What are the benefits?
This combination of assessments can be customized to the company's needs an encompasses all areas of manufacturing waste and pollution prevention. The assessments are to aid manufacturers in decreasing manufacturing costs through improving inventory control, reducing scrap, making processes more efficient, and conserving resources.

What can I expect?
Results of the assessment will be documented in a ROI analysis and will describe areas for waste reduction and potential cost savings for the company.

Schools

School Waste Reduction Grant Program

The District's Solid Waste Reduction Grant Program is designed to help schools that want to begin or improve waste reduction and recycling programs. The District will distribute up to $10,000 through a competitive grant application process in 2008. Grants are available to assist schools with innovative waste reduction, recycling, and/or compost programs that will significantly reduce the grantees’ waste stream.

The grant application for the 2008 - 2009 school year is due on February 25, 2008.
