Toxic Release Inventory
The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) is a compilation of 640 toxic chemicals and amounts that are released or transferred for disposal by manufacturing facilities. Facilities are required to submit annual reports about those chemicals released into the environment, as well as those that are accidentally released. The M&A Section uses TRI data to locate sources of toxic chemicals emitted in a specific area. Questions regarding TRI data can be answered by calling the DOES at 513-946-7777 or 800-889-0474 or by visiting the
USEPA
website.

The utility industry was required to report the release of
toxic compounds beginning with the 1998 reporting year. The
large quantity of acid aerosols (HCl, H2SO4) released by the
utilities is a product of the large amount of coal burned on
an annual basis.
