Yardwaste Recycling in Your Community

To learn the guidelines for yardwaste collection, click on an alphabetical link on the left or scroll to find your community.

Forty-eight different political jurisdictions fall within the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District and many provide some form of separate yardwaste or leaf collection. Collecting yardwaste separately means that the material does not go to the landfill; it is sent to an area composting facility. The most common programs are:

  • Contracted Service: Some communities, like the City of Cincinnati, use tax dollars to contract out a recycling program and charge little or no direct fee to their residents for curbside recycling collection.
  • Subscription  Service: Some communities, like Anderson Township, Green Township, Delhi Township, etc., allow residents to choose a waste hauler and recycling services and individually subscribe with a waste hauler for curbside recycling collection. Individual subscription means the resident will be charged.
  • Self Haul: Some communities, like Cincinnati, Cheviot, Indian Hill, Lockland and St. Bernard also use tax dollars to pick up their residents' garbage and/or recycling.
  • Yard Trimmings Drop-Off Locations: The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District offers Hamilton County, Ohio residents three yard trimmings drop-off sites within Hamilton County in which residents can drop-off their yard trimmings for free.

Updated April, 2014

A

Addyston - Yardwaste is no longer collected separately. Leaves and grass clippings can be placed with other garbage at your curb. However, sticks, brush, and limbs should be tied in bundles no more than 4 feet long and placed at the curb during your regular trash pick up.  During the month of January, residents of Addyston, Cleves, Miami Township, and North Bend can drop off Christmas trees at the Maintenance Building, 20 Cooper Avenue, Cleves, Ohio 45002. For more information, contact the Village of Addyston or call 513-941-1313.

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District encourages Addyston residents to recycle their yardwaste at the free yardwaste drop-off locations within the County.

Amberley - The Village of Amberley no longer requires yardwaste stickers. Items such as grass and rakings can be put out with the residents' normal trash. However, sticks, brush, limbs, and Christmas trees (all ornaments must be removed) are picked up at curbside weekly for composting.

During leaf season (Mid-October through December 31) residents should take note of the following procedures for the disposal of leaves. Bulk leaves must be raked to the curb and will be picked up by the Village Service Department using the vacuum leaf collector during the leaf collection period (October 15 - December 31). Residents are required to keep grass, brush clippings and other debris (rock, gravel, trash, metal, etc.) separate from the leaves. Leaf piles containing brush and other debris will not be picked up. Such debris can damage leaf collection equipment. Leaves placed in the street clog gutters and storm drains and may constitute a traffic hazard. Leaf piles should be placed just behind the curb in your yard and extend no more than 10 feet up into your yard. Our equipment cannot reach any further than this. Leaf piles blocked by parked cars or low hanging tree limbs will not be picked up. It is impossible for us to get the leaf collection equipment into such tight areas. The areas in which leaves should NEVER be placed are around mailboxes, sign posts, utility poles, and guide wires. They should also especially NEVER be placed around fire hydrants.

A separate Amberley crew picks up brush material. Click here to find out when crews will pickup your brush. When placing limbs near the road, leave them side by side, with the broken or cut end of the limb placed closest to the street. The length of the limbs should be as long as possible and should not exceed 10" in diameter. Leaves should be piled at the curb line, but must not be placed in the street. Small sticks, twigs, clippings, and raked material should be placed in bags and/or cans, in compliance with yard waste regulations, to be picked up by the trash collector on your regular waste collection day. Vines and sticks with thorns must be kept separate from other material and cut in 4-foot lengths. For more information, contact Amberley Village or 513-531-8675.

Anderson Township - Anderson Township residents subscribe directly with Rumpke or Republic for solid waste and recycling services. Rumpke or Republic no longer provide separate yardwaste collection for Anderson Township. Residents no longer need to use a sticker; they can set yardwaste out with their normal garbage for collection. Anderson Township does not have a leaf collection program.

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District encourages Anderson Township residents to use the free yardwaste drop-off locations one of which is located in Anderson Township. For more information, contact Anderson Township or 513-688-8400.

Arlington Heights - City employees collect yardwaste at the curb year round. Leaves must be placed at the curb and are vaccumed. Larger brush must be bundled, not to exceed 50 lbs. and no longer than 4', and placed at the curb.

The Village can also park a dump truck in your driveway to collect large amount of yardwaste. There is no charge for this service. Contact Arlington Heights for more information.

CURBSIDE LEAF COLLECTION - CITY CREWS
Between mid-October and mid-December
, City crews collect leaves along City streets (no bagging required during this time). For 2013, collection will begin on October 14 and ends on December 13. Leaves should be brought to the curb or to the berm of the road if no curb exists. Please make sure leaves are not placed in the ditch line as this will clog the storm sewer system and possibly cause flooding onto the roadway or your property. Please DO NOT MIX any other yard waste items in with the leaves (such as grass, flowers, mulch, brush, bush trimmings). Leaves must be raked to the curb prior to 6:30 AM on Monday of each week to be collected that week. Our goal is to service each street weekly, but during heavy volume periods, in the event of a snow/ice emergency, or due to equipment breakdown, it may take longer to complete a citywide sweep. Leaves put out after City crews have already serviced a street will be collected the following week. Residents may call our Service Department Center at 513-686-1250 to find out when their street was last serviced.

There is one-time spring leaf collection day by City crews. For 2014, this date is Monday, April 7. * Keep brush separated from leaves; do not mix them.

* Do not block sidewalks with leaf piles.

* Do not cover fire hydrants, landscaping rock or timbers with leaves.

* Do not bag leaves unless they are intended for regular trash pickup.

* Brush and limbs should be placed at the curb with the cut end of the limb pointing the same direction as vehicular travel.

Storm Damage Collection

Storm damage collection is a service Sycamore Township has provided for many years through the Maintenance Department.  Sycamore Township Maintenance Superintendent Tracy Kellums declares whether a "storm damage condition" has occurred. When "storm damage condition" has been declared, residents must call 513-791-8447 within two working days after the storm to have the branches picked up at no charge or fill out our Action-Line form.  The storm damage should be placed at the curb within two weeks of the storm.  Please check the home page for ALERTS on storm damage announcements.

When you call, tell the office staff that you have storm damage, give them your name, address and phone number.  It is not the policy of Sycamore Township to cover the whole Township street by street after the storm, but rather collecting only the addresses reported to the office.  The maintenance department will-only pick up limbs and branches from the recent storm.  Leaves, which are picked up during our annual fall "leaf season" will not be collected.  Foundation plantings, old firewood, and tree and brush pruning will not be collected as storm damage.  They can be disposed of through your trash collection or at our monthly brush chipping program held behind the Sycamore Township Maintenance Building, 8540 Kenwood Road, from 8 am until 4 pm on the first Saturday of each month.

Curbside Brush Pick-up

Yard and tree brush can also be collected by the Maintenance Department crews on an as needed basis for a fee of $50.00.  All brush must be placed at the curb with all trimmed ends facing the same direction (towards the street) for quicker handling by the road crew.  Residents must call (513) 791-8447 to have the brush picked up and a work order started or simply fill out our Action-Line form.  Fees will be billed to the property owner after the brush is cleared.

Fall leaf collection begins mid-October and runs through mid-December. Leaves should be raked out to the public right of way beside the street. DO NOT PUT LEAVES IN THE STREET. Other yardwaste mixed with the leaves will not be picked up.

The Sycamore Township Maintenance Department will, once again, chip Christmas trees. Christmas trees will be chipped at two sites: Bechtold Park, 4312 Sycamore Road and Clete McDaniel Sports Complex,11797 Solzman Road. Drop trees off at the designated area at either location 24-hours/day. Trees will be chipped beginning December 26 through mid-January. Chips will be available at the spring and fall Compost/ Wood chip Give-Away. For more information, please contact Sycamore Township or 513-791-8447.

Wyoming - All yard waste must be separated and placed at the curb in separate containers or bundles. Yard waste is picked up on Mondays throughout the entire City from March 1 to November 30. Contact Rumpke directly at 513.851.0122 to schedule yard waste pick-ups from December 1 to February 28. A blue yard waste sticker for each 35-GALLON container is required and may be purchased at the City Building for $2.00.  If you are using a paper lawn bag, each bag must have a $2.00 sticker attached as well. IF YOU ARE USING A CONTAINER THAT IS LARGER THAN 35-GALLON YOU MUST ATTACH ADDITIONAL STICKERS IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE COLLECTED. Place yard waste loosely in a trash can with a lid and handles or in a paper yard waste bag.  The City does not sell the paper yard waste bags; you can get them at all hardware stores and grocery stores. The 35-GALLON container can weigh no more than 50 pounds. No plastic bags can be used.  No wheelbarrows, paper bins, Tyvek® type collapsible bins or metal barrels will be accepted. Sticks may be bundled in lengths no more than four feet in length, two feet in diameter, and weigh no more than 50 pounds per bundle. Yard waste must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on Monday or after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings. Please note: Only yard waste prepared correctly and containing the proper amount of yard waste stickers will be collected by Rumpke. It is strenuously recommended that you NOT use the brown or green wheelers for yard waste as these containers are not made to hold the weight of yard waste and they will become damaged more quickly than if used strictly for garbage or recycling.  If you absolutely must use the brown wheeler or the green wheeler for yard waste additional stickers ARE REQUIRED.  A 64-gallon wheeler requires TWO stickers and a 96-gallon wheeler requires THREE stickers. Rumpke makes a more sturdier 96-gallon wheeler that is made specifically for yard waste materials.  This yard waste wheeler is rented or leased directly from Rumpke (no stickers would be required as it is covered in your rental or lease payment).  Should you wish to rent or lease a yard waste wheeler, please contact Rumpke at 513.851.0122.

Yardwaste must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on pick up day. The City will collect Christmas trees at the curb until mid-January.

Curbside leaf pick up is generally conducted October, November, December and March.  Residents are required to keep grass, brush clippings and other debris (rocks, gravel, trash, metal etc.) separate from the leaves.  Leaf piles containing such materials will not be picked up. Such debris can damage leaf collection equipment.  Leaves should be placed just behind the curb in your yard and extend no more than ten feet up into your yard.  Our equipment can not reach any further than this.

Leaves are composted and ground by the Department and offered to residents beginning in March. You may call the City Building 513-821-7600 to place an order for mulch beginning at 8:00 a.m. on the first Monday in March each year.

For more information, call the City of Wyoming at 513-821-7600.

Please note: all contracts are through Rumpke unless otherwise specified.
