Battery Disposal

How, and where, to properly dispose of common batteries can be confusing. Here is what you need to know.

First and foremost: do not place batteries in your recycling bin or cart! Batteries cannot be recycled locally in this way, and they create a potential fire hazard in recycling trucks and facilities.

Do take your batteries to one of the following locations to be properly disposed. Be sure to place them in a clear, sealable bag. 

Type of Batteries and Where to Dispose of Them

Single Use Batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, button)

9-Volt

Because the connectors of 9-volt batteries are exposed, they are especially susceptible to fire hazard and must be disposed of separately from other batteries. Be sure to put tape over the connectors. They are accepted at no cost at the following locations:
