For the Love of Food

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District and La Soupe, are presenting For the Love of Food: A Free Foodie Fest on Sunday, September 8. This inaugural event will take place at Washington Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This family-friendly community event invites attendees to have lunch while discovering the value of food, through games, cooking demonstrations, educational booths and giveaways, all focused on preventing wasted food. This event is an outgrowth of a nationwide awareness and education campaign committed to reducing food waste 50% by 2030. This will be a zero-waste event.

For the Love of Food will give families the opportunity to “travel” through Washington Park with a Foodie Passport while enjoying music by DJ Diamond. Those with completed passports will receive a reusable bag filled with groceries.

La Soupe, a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding the food insecure, will create a delicious rice and bean dish featuring donated foods. They will also present cooking demonstrations.  Plant Cincinnati will grill and 80 Acres will serve up salad for event-goers to sample. The Central Parkway YMCA will head up a food-centric exercise. Their education booths will feature a “Produce Petting Zoo” and demonstrate how to be creative in the kitchen, as well as how to properly store perishables for maximum life and enjoyment.

For the Love of Food is free and open to the public. Special thanks to Kroger Zero Hunger-Zero Waste, Green Umbrella, the Free Store Food Bank, the Cincinnati Water Works, 80 Acres, Plant Cincinnati, the Central Parkway YMCA, GoZERO and our volunteers for their generous support.
