Art Contest

Hamilton County students from kindergarten through high school are challenged to show their creativity by creating a work of art out of repurposed materials. The theme is “fun in the sun” and all mediums are eligible: paintings, posters, sculptures, jewelry, even clothing. Entries are due July 10 and should be submitted to hcdoescommunity@hamilton-co.org.

Fun in the Sun art projects will be judged by a panel from Hamilton County Environmental Services, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and Indigo Hippo.

Winners will be announced on July 24; they will receive a printed certificate and a $25 gift card to Indigo Hippo, a Cincinnati non-profit organization and creative reuse center whose mission is to improve accessibility and sustainability of art materials. Winning art projects will also be featured on Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms.

Entry categories are kindergarten through fourth grade; fifth through eighth grade, and ninth through twelfth grade. There is also a category for families/teams for projects completed with help from a parent/caregiver (no adult groups, please).

Contest participants are strongly encouraged to use non-recyclable waste items such as bubble wrap, plastic bags, yogurt/butter tubs, Styrofoam, clam shell containers, pet food bags, clothing/textiles, and broken toys, garden hoses, and furniture.

To enter, complete the entry form and email it, along with photos of your project, to hcdoescommunity@hamilton-co.org.

Questions about the art contest should be directed to Kristi O’Conner at hcdoescommunity@hamilton-co.org.
