Make and Take Classroom Worm Bin

Workshop participants will each receive a worm bin kit, training, and resource packet. Training details include bin set-up, maintenance, and how to keep a healthy living environment for the worms.

The kit includes a bin, worms, and a resource packet, which includes Mary Applhoff’s book, Worms Eat My Garbage, a tip sheet, color laminated picture of the worm’s anatomy, and a variety of lesson plans. The kit, training, and resource packet have a retail value over $70.


Land Lab Development

Teachers and administrators interested in developing a Land Laboratory or utilizing outdoor areas for learning will enjoy this workshop. It doesn’t matter if the school is landlocked by buildings and/or parking lots or if your school has plenty of green space, outdoor learning stations and habitat can be developed anywhere! Your desire to take your students outside makes this project is a success.

Workshop instructors help you with site planning, offer ideas for local support, and suggest ways to solve problems. Substitute reimbursement available for participants who teach within Hamilton County. A .5 CEU is also available.

Funded by the Environmental Education and Training Partnership, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency office of Environmental Education and operated by the North American Association for Environmental Educators.

Charting diversity, birds and worms, pollution search…these are some of the 96 hands-on interdisciplinary activities in PLT’s PreK-8 Guide. It covers such topics as water and air quality, ecology, urban environments, gardening, and recycling.

The guide is designed to meet the common components of national education reform by using the constructivist approach to learning, whole language teaching, cooperative learning, problem solving, and authentic assessments.
